Description:

This high condition '51 Navy was manufactured in 1866 and appears to have been originally destined for Colt's London Agency given the "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT LONDON-" address on the top of the barrel and the blued iron grip frame. The other markings and features are standard, including all matching serial numbers on most of the metal components (loading lever blank) and the matching partial serial number properly hand-written in the back strap mortise. The case has a blank brass escutcheon on the lid, green lining, a steel cleaning rod, lead balls and bullets, loose paper cartridge, cartridge pack, L-shaped combination tool, blued Colt patent dual cavity bullet mold, cap tin, and James Dixon powder flask.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus original, high polish blue finish on the barrel and grip frame, an even gray-brown patina and distinct naval battle scene on the cylinder (finish looks like it just fell off), 60% original case colors, limited light oxidation/pitting, distinct markings, and minor overall wear. The grip is also very fine and has nearly all of the original varnish remaining, several light scratches and nicks, and minor edge wear. Mechanically excellent. The refinished mold is very good. The refinished case and other accessories are very good and have moderate age and storage related wear.
