This rare revolver was manufactured in 1860, the first year of production, and is one of only about 4,000 Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers manufactured with the full fluted cylinder and the "-ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.-" barrel marking. Some of these early Colt Model 1860 revolvers with fluted cylinders were among the approximatively 2,230 sold to southern dealers and were used by Confederate soldiers. These revolvers appear in the first 8,000 serial numbers and have "four-screw" (actually five screw) frames cut for shoulder stocks. It also has a German silver blade front sight, "COLTS/PATENT" frame marking, "PATENTED SEPT 10th 1850" in one cylinder flute and matching serial numbers on the barrel, arbor pin, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The wedge is numbered "498" and "1008." The grip is properly hand-numbered to the gun in black ink in the back strap mortise of the grip. The grip straps and furniture of the included shoulder stock are silver plated. The stock is marked "12" on the mounting hardware, "19" on the lower tang, and "1519" in ink under the buttplate. The custom case contains a cartridge pack, cap tin, desirable martial themed "COLTS PATTENT" powder flask, refinished, later production Colt patent dual cavity bullet mold, L-shaped combination tool, and lead balls.

Fine with 40% original blue finish, 60% original case colors, 75% original silver plating on the grip frame and stock hardware, strong "piano" varnish on the fine grip and exceptionally fine stock, a few small chips at the corners of the grip, mild overall wear including some dings and scratches on the cylinder and grip with distinct markings. Mechanically excellent. The relined case is good with mild storage wear including some split dividers and crack in the lid. The other accessories are fine and have mild age and storage related wear. Original Model 1860 Army revolvers with fluted cylinders are very hard to find. Examples in high condition are especially so, and the included shoulder stock and other accessories certainly add to the appeal of this set.
