Description:

With blued octagonal rifled barrel with central fluted section and blued crescent blade front sight. Casehardened patent breech with blued percussion cap pillar and numbered “1” in gold. Casehardened standing breech incorporating a blued adjustable rear sight and also numbered “1” in gold. Casehardened floating “island” detented lock signed “L. COLLOMBERT A AIX-LES BAINS” in gold. Furniture including casehardened trigger plate, blued spurred trigger guard and casehardened pommel with blued turned finial. Border and scroll engraved throughout, the trigger guard engraved with a monogram intertwined with a French count’s coronet. Hardwood half length stock with multipoint checkered butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 85% original blued finish with some wear to the edges. Casehardened parts retaining 90% plus original strong colors. Trigger guard retaining 95% original blued finish, the pommel finial retaining 75% original blued finish. The gold inlay remains in excellent condition, and the engraving is clear and crisp throughout. The stock is also very fine and has crisp checkering and minimal handling wear. Mechanically excellent.

Description:

See “A”, the breech and standing breech each numbered “2” in gold. The pair contained in their original close fitted white metal cornered oak case lined in green baize, the lid with gilt maker’s details “L. COLLOMBERT / MAITRE DE TIR / A AIX-LES BAINS SAVOIE”. With accessories, including ornate ball mold with articulated sprue cutter, plated powder flask, brass loading rod and brass mounted hardwood cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 85% original blued finish with some wear to the edges and light pitting on the breech end. Casehardened parts retaining 90% plus original strong colors. Trigger guard retaining 95% original blued finish, the pommel finial retaining 75% original blued finish. The gold inlay remains in excellent condition, and the engraving is clear and crisp throughout. The stock is also very fine and has crisp checkering and minimal handling wear. Mechanically excellent. The case is generally good with age related external storage marks, the base panel of the case split towards the front. The lid has a short crack in one corner and the upper portion of the case lock has been removed. The lining shows age related wear from the pistols and accessories, age fading, some wear to gilt letting on the lid lining, fitted base becoming loose. Accessories generally in good condition, one hardwood pot with chipped lid. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
