The firm of James Wilkinson & Son remains in business to this day as Wilkinson Sword. Casehardened scroll engraved box lock action with blued top strap with notch rear sight and a safety catch for each hammer, the left hammer with elongated nose to reach the lower barrel, and fitted with a blued belt hook on the left side. Blued trigger plate and border and scroll engraved trigger guard. Well figured walnut butt with a near full coverage of fine multi-point checkering, with inset silver initial escutcheon engraved with a crest, and casehardened border and scroll engraved butt cap with hinged trap cover. London proof marks. In original fitted mahogany case lined in green baize, the lid with printed James Wilkinson & Son trade label. With accessories, including three way brass mounted copper Sykes powder flask and brass mounted loading rod with worm.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrels, top strap, trigger plate and trigger guard each retain near 100% reblued finish, engraving softened, barrel signature worn. Action and butt cap each with crisp engraving and retaining faded traces of original casehardened finish. Belt hook retaining 30% original blued finish, some corrosion marking. The rear of the trigger guard is lose. The checkering to the butt is in fine condition. Case is generally in very good condition, some age related wear to the lining, minor staining to the label, a small chip to a rear corner of the lid. Accessories generally in good condition. Sykes flask in very good condition. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
