This classic English shotgun was manufactured c. 1865-1870 and was part of a two gun set; the included leather takedown case has a layer for each of two guns, and the barrel, upper tang, and heel of the buttplate are marked "2" (the latter two in gold). It has a bead front sight, flat rib signed "JOSEPH LANG & SONS, 22 COCKSPUR STREET, LONDON," "JOSEPH lANG & SONS" signed locks, tight English scroll engraving, and a highly figured pistol grip stock with checkering and a 14 1/4 inch length of pull. The case contains a leather shot flask, a brass powder flask, and wads.

Very fine with 85% plus professionally refinished brown and distinct patterns on the barrels, 80% original case colors, bright gold inlays, 75% plus original blue finish on the trigger guard, 50% original blue finish mixed with brown patina on the buttplate, and generally only light overall wear. The stock is fine and has crisp checkering, minor scratches and light dings, some discoloration and a filled knot on the right side of the butt, and minor edge wear. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are very good with mild storage wear overall, replaced upper latch, and some minor repairs on the interior dividers. Definitely a very attractive double gun.
