Description:

Developed during the 70s under the name "Model 1971 Double Action", and redubbed the "SSP" when the Joint Services Small Arms Program and XM9 trials were announced to replace the Model 1911A1 pistol as the military standard. Approximately 30 to 50 pistols were produced for these trials, and almost all of them were destroyed in the course of testing. This lot includes the slide and frame, the magazine catch and a small spring installed in the frame, and a pair of unfinished checkered grips with "PLAIN" scratched into the insides. With a box for a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup, and a factory letter stating the pistol was retained by the factory as a sample.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with some areas of rust and pitting on the inside, scattered handling and tooling marks, and some light scratches. Grips are very fine as unfinished, with sharp checkering and light handling marks.
