Description:

The name "Lunchbox" originated because it is completely void of proof marks and a serial number. Prior to the time of strict controls of firearms, these pistols were usually carried out of the factory in workers' lunch boxes, a piece at a time and assembled at home for the "new owners" use, hence the common name. The more recent explanation was that these were sample or presentation pistols used when it was necessary to have examples of production pistols for educational or presentation to officers or other people of influence. Manufactured by the factory with a possibly rejected frame, WWII Union Switch & Signal slide, and "HS" marked High Standard barrel. Standard fixed blade and notch sights, "USS" logo and address on the left side of the slide. The right side of the frame is marked with a partial "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and model marking with the marking offset. With checkered and reinforced Keyes Fiber grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish remains with some edge wear, handling marks overall, faint markings and the frame shows unfinished mill markings. The grips are also excellent with crisp checkering and some small dings. Mechanically excellent.
