Description:

Made in circa 1922 and according to the makers one of only six guns made to this specification. With blued barrels each engraved with a band and spray of scrolling foliage at the breech end. Concave matted rib with bead front sight, signed “W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 29 PALL MALL. LONDON. S.W. WORKS ST. MARY’S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM.”, and with rib extension engraved with further scrolling foliage. Casehardened treble grip action with fences each chiselled with scrolling foliage against a darkened ground, blued toplever and blued automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Casehardened locks each signed “W.W. GREENER” and with gold inlaid cocking indicator. Casehardened trigger plate, Greener patent single trigger (Harry Greener, Patent 9748 of 1906) and blued trigger guard. Finely engraved throughout with scrollwork framing vignettes involving hunting dogs, pheasants and ducks. The underside of the barrels and water table with Birmingham nitro proof marks and Greener “Elephant” trademarks. Well figured 14 1/4 inch straight hand stock including rubber recoil pad, with carved teardrop drop points, checkered grip and forearm, the latter with engraved Deeley & Edge fastener and dark horn tip. The underside of the butt with blank gold oval initial escutcheon. Weight 9 lbs. 12.5 oz. With original brass cornered leather case lined in emerald green velvet, the lid with gilt lettered leather W.W. Greener trade label, with full suite of original accessories. Exterior of lid named “W.B. Hurst Jnr. Baltimore”.

Rating Definition:

Barrels retaining 95% plus original blued finish, some minor fading and rub from light use, engraved decoration at breech ends and rib signature crisp. Action and locks retaining 80% original casehardened finish, engraving crisp, chiselled fences with evidence of gun slip rub. Toplever and trigger guard each retaining 90-95% original blued finish. Well figured stock with well defined checkering, some handling marks to checkering on forearm, the left under-horn at the head of the stock has been repaired. Rubber butt pad age hardened. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
