Description:

An evolution of John Browning's air cooled 1919 machine gun, the Mark II was developed to serve as lightweight aircraft armament, both as fixed weapons for attack/pursuit aircraft and in flexible defensive mounts. Similar in style and use to the U.S. AN/M2, it would also be slowly phased out in favor of heavier 50 caliber and 20mm guns. This example has no provision for manual sights, with a pair of spade grips mounted on the rear with a trigger bar integrated into the right grip. The top of the receiver is marked "MK II */B. 112. 918/B" and "N T S", with a set of yellow wax measurement notations on the right side plate. With 1945 dated Schmacht & Kale M13 canvas cover.

Rating Definition:

Good as deactivated. The breech has been welded closed, some internal parts have been removed, and a tack weld has been applied to the front collar. Mostly areas of brown patina overall, scattered oxidization, and mild scuffs and dents. The spade grip and trigger assembly appears to be a replacement. Currently non-functional; no guarantees are made about the feasibility, safety or expense of re-activating the item. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. Provenance: Brandhorst Collection
