Description:

In use from 1939 through 1945, the "high turret" sniper was one of the most effective sniper weapons in the German arsenal; ways were found to make less expensive snipers, but they never introduced a better model during the war. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the scope mounts screwed and welded to the receiver. "Eagle/135" proofs are present on the barrel, receiver, and the rear scope block, with "Mod. 98" on the receiver wall and matching numbers on the bolt components. The barrel bands (milled front and stamped rear) are unnumbered, and both the trigger guard and floorplate are stamped with "byf" markings. The smooth laminate pistol grip stock is fitted with a brown leather sling and a cupped steel buttplate. The scope is marked "cad" on the body, with "44328" on the adjustment base and "46525" on the front ring.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 80% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, scattered spotting, and light handling marks overall. The front barrel band shows some pitting and tool marks. The stock is fine, with some splitting of the grain along the wrist and the comb, along with a number of scuffs and dents. The optics are crisp, with a solid reticle, good mobility in the elevation adjustment, and some spotting and dents on the exterior. Mechanically excellent.
