Manufactured by Steyr-Daimler for the SS during World War II, this 98K rifle has been outfitted with a set of dovetailed "claw" bases on the receiver to accept a sniper scope. Hooded blade and tangent sights, with "bnz/40" (number partially removed by dovetail cut) on top of the receiver ring and an "eagle/SSZZA2" on the left. Fitted with a smooth laminated stock, milled components, brown leather sling and a cupped steel buttplate. The "dow+" marked scope is fitted with a set of machined claw ring mounts and a rubber eye cup, with an in-line elevation adjustment ring.

Very fine, with 80% of the blued finish, showing a number of mild handling marks, spotting, and some patches of minor rust. The bolt has been restamped to match the receiver, with a set of unnumbered barrel bands. The stock is fine, with some scuffing, dings and scratching. The optics are a bit hazy, with fading of the reticle and mild spotting and wear on the exterior. Mechanically excellent.
