Manufactured in circa 1870. With browned damascus barrels each engraved with a band of stylized foliage at the breech end and with concave rib signed “BOSS & CO. 73 ST. JAMES’S STREET, LONDON”, bead front sight and engraved with a pyramid of foliage at the breech end. Bright action with carved percussion fences and rebounding back action locks each signed “BOSS & CO.”. Fine border and scroll engraving throughout. Figured 14 1/4 inch straight hand stock including rubber recoil pad, with checkered grip and forearm, the latter with key fastener. Barrels and action struck with London black powder proof marks and Birmingham nitro reproof marks, the barrels each also with barrel maker’s mark “JP”. Proved at 18.7mm/18.7mm, measuring 18.7mm/18.7mm, 2 3/4 inch (70mm) chambers, minimum wall thickness 0.017 and 0.018. Weight 7 lbs. 0.6 oz. In fitted leather case lined in red baize, the lid with printed Boss & Co. trade label.

Barrels expertly rebrowned, engraving and signature sharp and clear. Action and locks cleaned bright, mostly a dull grey patina, engraving clear and sharp throughout. Stock refinished, checkering sharp. Case has been renovated with new straps and leather corner pieces. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
