Description:

This is a late 1944 dated WWII British Enfield No. 4 MK 1(T) sniper rifle that is fitted with a No. 32 MKIII scope and mount. These rifles were the standard WWII British sniper rifle, used until the early 1960s, when it was replaced by the Enforcer and L42 sniper rifles. The buttsocket is marked "M47C/ENGLAND/1944/P38756/ENGLAND/TR". It has a black wartime finish with a walnut buttstock, forend and handguards. The comb of the stock is fitted with a darkened, hardwood cheekpiece held on with two wood screws. It has the standard blade front sight with a "No. 7" marked rear sight. The buttstock has the correct British acceptance proofs under the grip area along with a slightly offset "S51" stamping behind the pistol grip area indicating conversion by H&H. The top of the wrist is stamped with serial number "21082". The underside of the forend is stamped with several British acceptance proofs followed by serial number "P38756". It is currently fitted with a No. 32 MKIII sniper scope that is marked "TEL. SIG/No.32 Mk.3/O.S. 2039A/CT&S No 21082", and it has the standard post and cross-hair reticle pattern. It has a very rough cast mount that is marked with only "38756/P". The top and bottom half of the scope rings are stamped "226 and 227". This sniper rifle is complete with one original box magazine, stamped with serial number "P38756" a unmarked shoulder bag, an unmarked brown leather sling and a No15MkI green wooden storage chest.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the a black wartime arsenal painted metal finish showing edge and high spot wear with a little thinning on the bolt handle with a some what rough textured finish on the receiver. The wood components are all excellent with minor handling marks in a few areas with the rear sides of the buttstock having some light longitudinal scratches in front of the buttplate. The varnish on the cheekpiece is flaking off and shows some old touch up. The scope and mount both show 97% of the black/blue painted finish overall with some minor thinning on the ends of the scope. The optics are very clear. The wooden storage chest is in fine condition with 60% of the green painted finish remaining overall with several areas of British arsenal yellow touch up paint on the ends. The leather handles and hinges have been replace, and the torn original handles are included. The bottom and lid show several repairs overall with several areas of repainted arsenal markings. The rifle case and shoulder bag are both in very fine condition.
