Description:

Manufactured in circa 1911. With blued Krupp steel barrels respectively signed “JOHN WILKES” and “1. LOWER JAMES ST. GOLDEN SQUARE. LONDON. W.”, the left tube engraved with a monogram, and each breech end engraved with a band of stylized foliage. Sunken matted concave rib and matted ramp mounted bead front sight and matted concave raised quarter rib with rear sight of one standing and two folding leaves each with platinum inlaid center line and graduated from “100” to “300” yards, and with scroll engraved doll’s head extension. The underside of the tubes respectively engraved “3 IN. CASE. CORDITE 55 GNS.” and “BULLET 320 GNS.” Casehardened side clipped action with blued automatic safety and silver inlaid “SAFE”. Blued trigger guard and pistol grip cap. Border and scroll engraved throughout. The barrel flats and water table with London nitro proof marks and stamped “JOHN WILKES”. Figured 14 1/2 inch pistol grip stock including rubber recoil pad, with checkered grip and forearm, the latter with Anson push button release. The underside of the butt with blank silver initial escutcheon. Weight 10 lbs. 8.5 oz.

Rating Definition:

Barrels retaining 40% faded original blued finish, signature and engraving clear. Action retaining 70% faded original casehardened finish, engraving clear. Stock reoiled, sharp checkering, no visible blemishes. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
