Description:

Also known as the Improved Model 1911A1 Pistol, the Transitional 1911s were made in 1924. While they retained the nomenclature markings of the 1911, they were equipped with the signature features of the 1911A1 which included the dished frame sides, shortened trigger, elongated grip safety, and arched mainspring housing. The accompanying factory letter confirms the Transition Model configuration and shipment to Springfield Armory on May 6, 1924. Angled and serrated blade front and flat top notch rear sights, with the two-line, two-block address and patent markings divided by the Rampant Colt logo on the left side of the replacement slide, "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY" on the right, and a vertical "H" above the firing pin stop plate. The frame bears the circular Walter Gordon "WTG" inspection stamp, with the short milled checkered trigger, wide checkered hammer, short grip safety, checkered arched mainspring housing, unmarked two-tone magazine, and a replacement commercial "COLT 45 AUTO"/large "G" marked barrel.

Rating Definition:

Fine as assembled, with 70% of the original blue finish on the frame, much of the dull refurbished blue on the replacement slide, showing bright wear on the high edges, brown patina on the grip straps, scattered light dings and scratches, and minor pitting in the exposed areas and around the grips. Many components (the front sight, grip safety) have been replaced, and the trigger shows a contrasting finish. The grips are good, with mild dings on the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
