Description:

The included factory letter states that this Smith & Wesson Model 39 was shipped to Charles Greenblatt Co. in New York, New York on January 3, 1968 and was one of two ordered for Captain Michael A. Carlino. In the letter Smith & Wesson historian Roy Jinks states the pistol may have been sent back to the factory for the embellishment it currently has, though it does not have any factory refinish marks or a second factory date. The pistol has light period typical S&W factory floral engraving on the slide and frame with gold markings. The right side of the slide has a panel with "Capt. Michael A. Carlino" in a gold script font. The front strap features intertwining loops and checkered diamonds. Some information and a 1967 Toms River NJ newspaper article concerning career officer Michael A. Carlino (1922-1995) being promoted and sworn in to his new rank of Captain with the Dover NJ Township Police is included as is a display case and an extra magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as embellished. Retaining 98% factory quality reapplied blue finish with most of the gold remaining in the markings and limited handling marks. The grips are also very fine with a few minor scratches. Mechanically excellent. Case is very good with limited handling and storage marks.
