Manufactured in 1900 as a Third Model with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrations at the rear. The barrel is fitted with a blade front sight on a square base and a folding ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards and is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight and "44 W.C.F." at the breech. The cartridge elevator is marked "44 CAL." The left side of the receiver is fitted with a saddle ring. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873." The lower tang has the serial number. The stock is fitted with a trapdoor carbine buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 60% plus original blue finish with a smooth brown-gray patina on the balance. Some cold blue touch up on the forward top portion of barrel, rear of front sight stud. Traces of original case colors remain on the buttplate, hammer and lever. The wood is very good with a long hairline stress crack at the upper tang, limited surface type chipping and dings and scratches throughout. Mechanically excellent. These carbines are a highly desirable variation of the Model 1873 and were used greatly during the period, leaving well above average condition examples like this one hard to find.
