Description:

Manufactured in 1868. The barrel features the desirable early production legend: "HENRY'S-PATENT-OCT. 16. 1860/KING'S-PATENT-MARCH 29. 1866". The serial number is stamped on the left side of the lower tang along with "CO". The stock inlet and buttplate are numbered to the gun. The sights consists of a blade integral band and two leaf rear sight. A saddle ring is mounted on the left side of the brass receiver. The bolt retains its original rimfire configuration. A stylized letter "A" is period hand marked on the cartridge elevator. The carbine stock has a brass trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). The '66 secured Winchester's place in the annals of the West and launched a long line of successful Winchester lever actions that remain popular to this day and still retain the basic form of the '66.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel and magazine tube have a mottled brown-gray patina. The fine brass has an overall even appearance and the side plates fit tightly. The wood is good with a repair at the stock toe, limited surface chipping and minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A desirable Model 1866 carbine featuring the coveted Henry's patent barrel marking.
