The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 5 1/2 inch barrel in .32/20 caliber, blue finish, grips not listed when shipped to the Hackett, Gates, Huntry Company in St. Paul, Minnesota who sold it to A.D. McAusland of Miles City, Montana on March 1, 1915. A.D. McAusland, a frontier gunsmith, owned Creedmoor Armory located on Main Street in Miles City, Montana. Accompanying research document titled "CHAPTER XIII Single Actions With 1878 DA Cylinders (Long Flutes)" states, "In April of 1913 Colt's began what turned out to be a two and one-half year project of assembling Single Action Armies utilizing surplus Model 1878 Double Action Army Revolver cylinders. This limited production variation was another direct result of the time worn adage, 'Colt's never threw anything away.'" This research document also lists a handful of other Colt Single Action revolvers observed in the 329xxx serial range with long fluted cylinders. Standard address and patent markings for a 1915 production SAA. Matching serial numbers on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The assembly number "597" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate and on the right rear face of the frame beneath the grip. Inside of the grips hand-numbered "352974". Provenance: The John Fox Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine with a healthy dose of American character and charm, with scattered Montana brown accents of patina on the frame gorgeously mixed with the traces of vibrant case colors underneath, 50% original flaking blue finish with a nick on the muzzle, Montana holster wear, and patina brown grip straps. Replacement grips are also fine with some light handling marks, callused palm wear on the right grip as well as a small chip on the lower right left. Mechanically excellent.
