Description:

The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was shipped on October 12, 1887 to Albert Kleinschmidt Commercial Co., Helena, Montana, with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .45 caliber, nickel finish and hard rubber stocks. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Albert Kleinschmidt was one of the early pioneers of Helena, Montana, with many business ventures in mercantile, agricultural and mining, and around 1880 he was operating one of two major hardware stores in the region. The accompanying A.L. Furstnow of Miles City leather skeleton pattern shoulder holster was designed for both concealment and a fast draw and is configured for a short barreled revolver. Located in eastern Montana, legendary cattle town Miles City was the "end of the trail" for many Texas longhorn cattle drives in the 1890s and was home to Al Furstnow who opened his own saddlery shop in 1894. A Hamilton, Montana police badge and an Undersheriff Fergus County, Montana badge are also included. The Fergus County badge was once part of the Smith/Smyth family collection and belonged to a Montana undersheriff in the family. The spelling of the surname changed from Smith to Smyth in 1924. As identified in the family's own accompanying genealogy research, Lewis Atley Smith (1875-1940) was the Undersheriff of Fergus County, Montana. Fergus County was created in 1885, just two years before this SAA shipped to Montana. Provenance: The John Fox Collection

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine as handsomely restored, retaining 99% plus of the nickel plating with very minimal handling marks, faint traces of a cylinder drag line and very good replacement grips. Action has a weak cylinder stop, otherwise functions fine. The very good shoulder holster rig shows authentic use. An always desirable antique Colt SAA accompanied by a sought after Furstnow skeleton holster rig and Montana police badges, making for a great grouping to add to your Western or law enforcement collection.
