The No. 1 Rolling Block Rifles were manufactured c. 1867-1888 and are classic rifles of the American West. They were among the earliest metallic cartridge rifles used on the frontier and among the most popular. The top of the barrel has blade front and adjustable sporting rear sights and the E. Remington & Sons. address, and the bottom of the barrel is marked with "40 70" ahead of the forearm and the matching serial number and "ST" under the forearm. The forearm has a steel tip and the matching serial number on the rear. The left side of the frame has the patent marking ending in the 1873 date. Provenance: The John Fox Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine as "frontier issued" with an attractive mix of gray and brown patina overall consistent with a well-loved and trusted rifle, some replaced screws, and general mild overall wear. The wrist and rear of the forend have some small chips, but the wood is otherwise fine and has mild overall wear from use and handling, including some dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. This is a classic Remington Rolling Block straight out of a long time western collection.
