Description:

This pistol is one of approximately 24,000 Model 1842 pistols manufactured by Henry Aston of Middletown, Connecticut, in between 1846 and 1850. The pistol has a round smoothbore barrel with brass front sight blade and swivel mounted button head ramrod. The lock has "U.S/H.ASTON" in front of the hammer and "MIDDTN/CONN/1847" stamped behind the hammer. The barrel tang is also dated "1847" (Mexican American War Era). The top of the barrel is marked "U.S./JH/P". "NWP" and "WAT" cartouches are on the left stock flat.

Rating Definition:

Fine with bright polished barrel and lock with small spots of cleaned pitting, aged patina on the brass furniture, and general minor wear including some dings on the pommel cap. The re-oiled stock is also fine and has distinct cartouches and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
