Description:

Manufactured in 1857 as a Model 2 and remains in incredibly high condition. The top barrel flat has the Hartford address with pointing hand motif. The cylinder has the "cabin and Indian" roll mark. Wearing an attractive varnished walnut one-piece grip. The custom fitted partitioned case contains two sealed packages of combustible envelop cartridges, sealed/wrapped Eley Brothers cap tin for Colt belt and pocket pistols, double face eagle powder flask and .28 caliber dual cavity brass bullet mold featuring a Colt's patent marked sprue cutter. One of the cartridge packages is "expressly for" Colt pocket pistols (.31 caliber), while the other package is for Colt or Remington pocket pistols in .31 caliber. The revolver is in .28 caliber. The double face powder flask has two rows of stars above the eagle and the "E. Pluribus Unum" banner below the eagle. These "New Model Pocket Pistols" were patented by Samuel Colt and are the sole Colt percussion handguns manufactured with solid frames with top straps over the cylinders. They have been nicknamed "Root Revolvers" by collectors after Colt's superintendent: Elisha K. Root. They were manufactured between 1855 and around 1870. The .28 caliber version was dropped in 1861, as the .31 caliber version took its place. Provenance: The Mac McCroskie Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 97% plus bright original high polished blue finish with some scattered high edge wear and minimal handling marks. Nearly all of the crisp cylinder scene remains. Most of the vivid original case colors remain on the loading lever. 97% original case colors remain on the hammer. The grip is also excellent showing limited handling marks and retaining nearly all original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some minor handling/storage marks, a loose partition wall and typical high edge wear on the lining. The powder flask retains 75% original lacquer. An extraordinary example an excellent condition Model 1855 percussion revolver that will be a welcome addition to any Colt percussion collection.
