Description:

Though a relatively short lived company, the Starr Arms Co. came from longer line of U.S. weapons makers given Ebanezer T. Starr was the descendant of Nathan Starr Jr. and Sr. who manufactured swords and rifles for the government earlier in the 19th century. Starr Arms Co. was also the third largest supplier of revolvers and fifth largest supplier of carbines for the Union during the Civil War making them an important company for students and collectors of Civil War arms. Approximately 20,600 of these percussion carbines were manufactured by Starr Arms Company during the Civil War for the U.S. government. This example has the standard Starr markings and features, including traces of a cartouche on the stock wrist.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% plus vibrant original case colors remaining on the lock and action, 25% of original finish elsewhere, mottled brown patina on the balance, aged patina on the brass, minor oxidation, and scattered marks and scratches. The lightly sanded, reoiled wood is very good and has mild handling and storage type wear, some slight edge wear around the lock mortise, and smooth oiled surfaces. Mechanically excellent.
