Description:

The accompanying factory letter confirms the 7 1/2 inch barrel in .38 caliber, blue finish and "wood" stocks. The revolver was shipped to W.H. Spooner (address unavailable) on November 17, 1886 (no research is available on the aforementioned individual). The top of the barrel has the one-line Hartford address, the left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking, and "38 CAL" is marked on the left side of the trigger guard. The matching full serial number is stamped on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The matching partial serial number ("60") is stamped on the rear cylinder face and on the barrel under the ejector rod housing. Includes an unmarked California pattern open top/closed toe leather holster featuring a minimalist tooled border motif and a cartridge money belt marked "38/5" and "S94/*."

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and ejector rod housing retain 40% plus original blue finish, faded traces of original blue remain on the cylinder flutes, 20% original blue remains on grip straps and 40% original case colors remain on the frame with the balance a smooth gray patina. "RS" is hand marked on the butt, and there are a few very scattered patches of pitting. The grip is also fine with most of the original varnish, a small chip visible at the toe, minor dings and scratches, and high edge wear. Mechanically needs work as the revolver is experiencing timing failures.. The holster rig is very good with overall tight stitching.
