Description:

This double rifle appears to have started as a double barrel shotgun by James Fairman (formerly of Purdey's) given the "J. FAIRMAN" signed locks have engraved pheasants, and the trigger guard has a pair of pointer and is numbered "641" on the tang. It was later fitted with a two-groove rifled barrel set numbered "2469" on the bottom of the barrels and breech plugs, signed "TRULOCK & SON. 9 DAWSON ST DUBLIN," and equipped with a beaded blade front sight and flat folding four-leaf rear sight graduated for 50, 100, 150, and 250 yard and equipped with platinum sight lines. The barrels have no visible proofs. Aside from the animal, the engraving consists of fine English scroll and border engraving. The scroll pattern on the rib is different than the engraving on the locks and furniture. The stock has checkering on the forend and wrist, a blank silver escutcheon on the bottom of the butt, and no cheek rest. Measurements: 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 1 3/4 inch drop at heel; 14 5/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs 14 oz. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection

Rating Definition:

Good with 20% original brown finish, 40% original case colors on the left lock, lighter original case colors on the right lock, 20% original blue on the trigger guard, patch of original blue on the buttplate tang, and smooth gray patina most of the balance. The stock is very good and has distinct checkering and mild scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
