Description:

This fabulous small frame Royal grade double rifle features a forearm ejector system and was manufactured in circa 1912. With blued barrels with solid flat matted rib with ramp mounted bead front sight, dovetailed rear sight of two folding notch leaf sights respectively graduated for 100 and 200 yards, signed “W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 68. HAYMARKET. LONDON”, and finely engraved with scrollwork and a vignette of a deer’s head (possibly a hog deer) towards the rib extension. The left tube engraved “AMMT.N .310” and each tube finely engraved with pyramids of scrollwork at the breech ends. Casehardened treble grip bolstered action signed “W.W. GREENER” on each side, with arcaded fences enclosing the Greener patent cross bolt and blued toplever with gold inlaid crown. Blued Greener side safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” and furniture comprising a blued trigger guard engraved “GRADE RFHT 60” and a blued butt plate. The whole finely engraved with classic English scrollwork framing panels scenes depicting Australian wildlife including kangaroos and emu, and a large hooded snake coiled around a log on the trigger guard. The underside of the barrels and water table struck with Birmingham nitro proof marks and Greener “Elephant” trademarks. Well figured 14 inch walnut straight hand stock with shaped panels of fine multipoint checkering to the grip and forearm, the latter with Deeley and Edge fastener, a period blued Lyman type folding aperture sight is fitted to the wrist, and arrow shaped dark horn drop points. The underside of the butt with blank gold initial escutcheon. Weight 5 lbs. 14 oz. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection

Rating Definition:

This miniature double rifle is in wonderful condition with clear charming engraved scenes. The barrels retain nearly all of an older reblued finish which is turning to a plum color. The action retains 20% original casehardened finish, restricted to the water table, breech face and well around the base of the toplever. The engraving is crisp throughout with delicate detailing and is of wonderful quality. The stock has an older reoiled finish with an attractive figure pattern and well defined checkering, occasional slight storage and handling blemishes. Mechanically excellent. A very rare rifle in lovely condition.
