Description:

This c. 1815-1820 artillery officer's saber has a curved blade measuring 29 1/2 inches straight across with broad fullers, niter blue panels terminating in scroll designs, and gilded etched floral and martial designs. The silver plated brass hilt has a Ketland style eagle head pommel, "P" guard, and a serrated bone grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather scabbard has silver plated brass fittings.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% original niter blue, 75% original gilt finish, mild patination on the balance of the blade, edge nicks, minor oxidation, traces of original silver plating on the hilt, aged patina on the balance, minor flake and age cracks on the grip along with a protective coating, and mild overall wear. The scabbard is good and has mild crackling and flaking on the leather, 50% original silver plating remaining, aged patina on the silver and brass, and general mild wear.
