Description:

This saber was imported and sold by Adam W. Spies of New York. c. 1820s-1830s. The curved blade measures 30 3/4 inches straight across and has niter blue panels with scroll finials, floral and martial etching with gild highlighting, and "A.W. SPIES" in a banner etched on the right. The hilt is iron, and the grip is wrapped with dark leather, twisted wire, and plain wire. The scabbard is iron.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 80% plus of the bright original niter blue and gold finish, bright balance of the bladed with some light spotting, gray patina and some light pitting on the hilt, very nice grip with a thin crack at the rear on the right, and mottled gray and brown patina on the scabbard. Definitely a very attractive sword.
