The grouping includes three patches for Merrill's Marauders (two machined, one bullion embroidered), a shoulder patch (cloth with bullion accents/lettering) and rocker bar (painted leather) for the MARS Task Force, a painted metal pin with the Marauders/MARS unit insignia, two patches for the Kachin Rangers (one machine made, one bullion), two for the Jingpaw Rangers (both cloth, one with the text inverted relative to the shield), and one cloth "FREE THAI" patch. Also included is a unit history of Merrill's Marauders, made as part of the "American Forces in Action" series prepared by the U.S. War Department. Merrill's Marauders, the MARS Task Force, and the Kachin and Jingpaw Rangers were U.S. operations in the CBI theater; the Marauders were the first American infantry unit to operate in China, with MARS as their successor, and the Rangers were local resistance forces supplied and supported by OSS Detachment 101 for action in and around China. The Free Thai Movement was Thailand's underground resistance to the pro-Japanese government, organized and trained in the U.S. by the OSS and air-dropped into Thailand to recruit, train and disrupt. The patches are very good to fine overall. The MARS rocker shows mild wear and tear. The book is fair, with some wear, tear and loose pages.
