Description:

Part of a relatively limited number made, in 1935 the Luftwaffe issued a set of orders authorizing the use of cuff titles commemorating service by veterans of World War One who were still on (or had returned to) active duty. The first two were for men who had served in the unit of the legendary Red Baron, the Freiherr von Richthofen, one embroidered "Jagdgeschwader Richthofen" (the first pattern, only authorized for about six months" and the other embroidered "Jagdgeschwader/ Frhr. V. Richthofen Nr. 1" and "1917/18" with aluminum border trim. The next two were for men who served in Oswald Boelcke's Jagdstaffel #2, with a similar early pattern "Geschwader Boelcke" and late pattern "Jagdstaffel/Boelcke Nr 2" and "1916/1918" distinction, the latter with white trim. The fifth cuff was established in 1940 for war correspondents attached to the Luftwaffe, embroidered "Kriegsberichter der Luftwaffe" with aluminum wire border trim. Each cuff comes with an individual note attributing them to the collection of George Petersen, and many of them can be seen in Chapter Nine and Chapter Ten of "German Military Cuffbands" by Williamson and McGuirl. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection

Rating Definition:

The titles are very good to fine overall, with the Boelcke and Richthofen cuffs showing mild staining.
