Description:

One of the first ground combat formations put together by the Luftwaffe, the unit that would become the Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1 Herman Goering started life as a paramilitary police formation assembled in the 1930s by Goering during his tenure as Prussian Minister of the Interior, and came with him after he moved to the Luftwaffe. A flagship unit of the Luftwaffe integrating infantry, armor and paratroopers, the Division served in Africa and both the Eastern and Western Fronts, ending the war in Soviet captivity in May of 1945. The first three cuffs are the "transitional regimental" pattern used only in 1942, with the Germanic script embroidery "Hermann Goring", two in white on dark blue, one in silver on black with officer-style trim. The other two are of the "final divisional" style, with white embroidered block letter "HERMANN GORING", one on black wool, the other on black herringbone twill with white officer style trim. Each cuff comes with a small individual note attributing it to the George Petersen collection, with one (a regimental enlisted transitional cuff) noted as unpublished, and the other four appearing on page 77 of "Field Uniforms of Germany's Panzer Elite" by Robert Edwards Jr. and Michael Pruett. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good to fine overall. The unpublished transitional cuff is nigh-mint, with the others showing some wear and stains.
