Description:

Only an estimated 7,000 of these Remington Model 1861 Navy .36 caliber revolvers were manufactured before production abruptly switched to the New Model series due to potential issues with the "Old Model" cylinder pins sliding loose in combat. This example has not been fitted with a filister screw. The U.S. Navy is estimated to have received less than a thousand of this model and the Army received most of the remaining revolvers. This example has the standard barrel marking, German silver cone front sight, frame groove rear sight, matching hand serial numbers on the underside of the smooth walnut grips. Serial number "16076" on the left side of frame underneath grip. Small inspection marks on various parts. Left grip panel marked with circled script "CGC" cartouche.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with traces of original blue, strong in protected places, but mostly a smooth blue/brown patina. The barrel marking remains crisp. Grips are fine showing light use and have some light chipping around the bottom, a few scattered minor dings and dents, and a crisp cartouche. The action is excellent.
