A) Westley Richards Double Barrel Shotgun

Description:

The barrel ribs have small bead front sights, "WESTLEY RICHARDS 170, NEW BOND ST. LONDON [1 or 2 over a crown respectively in an oval with floral accents] GUN & RIFLE MAKERS TO H.R.H. PRINCE ALBERT" in gold inlay, and additional gold accents at the breech end along with gold bands on the barrels at the breeches, and the bottom of the barrels have "W.R," "GT," the serial numbers, and Birmingham proofs. The breech plugs have gold plugs and bands. The locks are signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS" in gold, and the locks and furniture are engraved with primarily acanthus scroll patterns. The trigger guard tangs have the serial numbers in gold, and the buttplates have "1" and "2" respectively in gold inlay. The ramrods have matching serial numbers on the tips. The stocks have checkered forends and wrists, silver wedge escutcheons, and silver ovals on the bottom of the butts engraved with St. Edward's crown. Measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop at comb, 2 1/8 drop at comb, 14 5/16 length of pull, and 6 lbs. 3 oz. weight each. They come in a double layer hardwood takedown case with a leather cover, a later large inlaid Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom on the lid, Westley Richards' trade label inside the lid, and a variety of accessories, including oilers, wads, coordinating leather shot flask and silver plated James Dixon & Son powder flask, shot snake, and more.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as restored with 98% plus finish remaining, bright gold, crisp engraving and checkering, light handling and storage marks, some slight edge wear on the stock, and minor overall wear. Mechanically excellent. The restored case is good and has some storage wear including cracks. The accessories are generally fine or better with age and storage related wear including some minor dents on the flask.
