This fine, matched William Evans two gun set features blue steel, dovetail lump barrels with "WILLIAM EVANS. 63 PALL MALL St. JAMES'S LONDON" marked, smooth concave ribs, gold inlaid numbers "1/2" respectively at the breech end of the rib, automatic ejectors, modified/modified chokes, 2 1/2 inch chambers, and standard London nitro proofs (1925-1954) on the flats. Bright coin finished action and sidelocks with doll's head rib extension third fastener, bushed firing pins, niter blue pins and screws, gold inlaid numbers "1/2" respectively on the break levers, dual triggers, and automatic sliding tang safeties. The receiver and locks have full coverage, very fine leafy scroll engraving with "WILLIAM EVANS" banners on the locks. The trigger guards, tangs, and levers are engraved to match. The stocks have a distinctively large amount of cast off, appropriate for a right handed, left eye dominant shooter, and the locks, tangs, and trigger guard are carefully curved to match the stock contour. Stocks and forearms are attractively figured, checkered walnut with carved tear drop accented flats, matching numbered "1/2" Anson push rod latches, gold initial ovals inscribed "J.D.M." in fancy script letters, and leather wrapped recoil pads. Set includes a leather bound, oak takedown case with William Evans interior label, and "H.S.S." initials stamped on the lid exterior. This gun is consecutively numbered to the "B" gun of this lot. Barrel and stock measurements for gun "A" are: chambers marked and measured at 2 1/2 inches; choke constriction .018/.021; bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .733/.733; minimum wall thickness .029/.027; drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 5/8 inches; length of pull 16 inches.

Very fine as professionally refurbished with 97% factory quality refinished blue on the barrels, some light nicks and scratches, and small handling marks. The locks and action are mostly bright with well-defined engraving, fiery niter blue on the pins and screws, and some loss of definition on the trigger guard. The refinished wood is also very fine with a small repair visible on the right front edge of the forearm, crisp freshened checkering, small gaps at the pad, and just a few small dings. Mechanically excellent. Case is fine with exterior scuffs and dings, some light staining, small dings on the wood, and some wear on the cloth interior.

Modified/improved modified chokes. As described in "A". Consecutively serial numbered to the "A" gun in this lot. Very fine as professionally refurbished with 98% factory quality refinished blue on the barrels, traces of light pitting under the blue, and some scattered surface scratches. The receiver and locks have been polished bright with well-defined engraving, a small bright scratch on the trigger guard, and some softening of the trigger guard and tang engraving. The refinished wood is also very fine with attractive color and grain, crisp checkering, some small gaps at the recoil pad, and some visible repairs on the forearm edges. Mechanically excellent.
