Manufactured in 1921 per Nigel Brown's "British Gunmakers Volume One - London" on page 126. Blued, Whitworth's fluid pressed steel barrel with steel mid and white front bead sights on the matted, vent rib and chamber proved "1 1/4" (2 3/4 inches) with extractor. The barrel is marked "MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL." and "J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY ST. LONDON." The receiver and sidelocks are brushed bright finish and feature extensive, beautifully executed classic English rose and scroll engraving. Both of the lockplates and the underside are marked with the Purdey name. Single trigger, bushed firing pin, and hidden third fastener. The trigger guard, barrel release lever, and tangs are engraved to match with the receiver and lockplates. Attractively figured, multi-point checkered walnut beavertail forend with engraved fittings and Anson button release and pistol grip stock with blank inscription oval and red rubber recoil pad. Includes an Orvis soft takedown case and single snap cap. Barrel and stock measurements: bore 9 inches from the breech proved at "12" (.729 inches) and measured at .737 inches; choke constriction .025 inches; minimum wall thickness .053 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 1 7/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs 10 oz.

Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 99% blue finish and original brush bright finish on the lockplates and receiver with light handling evidence, and areas of a protective varnish remaining on the lockplates. The revarnished wood is very fine with some minor chipping along the edges, areas showing light scratching, two well-executed wooden dowel repairs in the forend, and crisp checkering. The case is very fine. Mechanically excellent.
