The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in September 1930 for a B.L. Duke. The records note it was built as a single-trigger hammerless ejector trap gun with a large forearm, original specification details include 32 inch Whitworth Steel barrels, 3 inch chambers, choked 65% (right) and 75% (left), treble grip action with side-clips, a Boss single trigger, matted ventilated top-rib with metal sights and the toplever monogrammed “BLD”. The right barrel is marked "MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID-PRESSURE STEEL", and the left is marked "J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON." London proofmarks on the watertable coincide with the date of manufacture. The casehardened sidelock action is covered in classic English fine rose and scroll engraving and features side clips, bushed firing pins, tang safety, and single trigger. Both lockplates and the underside are signed "J. PURDEY & SONS". Matching engraving on the trigger guard, tangs, and forend fittings with an "BLD" monogram on the release lever. Highly figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend utilizing an Anson button release and straight grip stock with blank inscription oval and checkered bare butt. The underside of the barrels is import marked beneath the forend. Includes a leather bound takedown case with Purdey trade label, two piece cleaning rod, nickel oiler, two nickel snap caps, and two turn screws. Bore and stock measurements (R/L): chambers proved and measured at 1 1/2 oz (3 inches); bores 9 inches from the breech proved at "12" (.729 inches) and measure .736/.737 inches; choke constriction .023/.038 inches; minimum wall thickness .032/.032 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 15 1/8 inch length of pull; cast-on; weight 8 lbs 6 oz.

Very fine as professionally refinished, retaining 98% blue and casehardened finishes, light handling evidence, a few minor scratches in the blue, and lightly faded marking barrel markings. The vent rib is almost certainly a replacement. The restored wood is also excellent with sharp checkering. The case is very good with some edge wear. Mechanically excellent.
