This delightful small frame Greener shotgun features a forearm ejector system and was manufactured in circa 1914. With blacked barrels with raised concave rib signed “W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 29. PALL MALL. LONDON. S.W. WORKS. ST. MARY’S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM”, and engraved with scrollwork at the breech ends and towards the matted rib extension. Casehardened treble grip action signed “W.W. GREENER” on each side, with Greener patent cross bolt and blued toplever. Blued Greener side safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” and blued trigger guard engraved “GRADE FH 50”. The whole finely engraved with classic English scrollwork. The underside of the barrels and water table struck with Birmingham nitro proof marks, London nitro reproof marks for 1983 and Greener “Elephant” trademarks. Well figured 14 5/8 inch walnut straight hand stock with panels of multipoint checkering to the grip and forearm, the latter with Deeley and Edge fastener and dark horn tip. The butt with checkered dark horn buttplate and silver oval initial escutcheon engraved with the initials “JJS”. Includes a manufacturer's labelled oak and leather case with gold embossed initials "J.D.W." on the lid, green baize interior, and various accessories including cleaning rod, silver Greener oil bottle, and the original horn buttplate. This small frame double shotgun is in wonderful condition with clear engraving. The barrels retain nearly all of the reblued finish with clear rib signature. The action with traces of original casehardened finish, restricted to the water table, breech face, beneath the toplever and around the shoulders of the fences. The stock has an older reoiled finish with an attractive figure pattern and well defined checkering, occasional slight storage and handling blemishes. The case is fine with various handling marks, replaced straps, and some scuffing and tears in the interior. Mechanically excellent. A very rare shotgun in lovely condition.
