Description:

A variant of Browning's base 1917 machine gun action, the Marlin-Rockwell 1918 was intended for use as aircraft armament, typically in fixed wing mounts. Similar machine guns would be key American air armament going into World War II, though they would be phased out in favor of variants of the Browning M2 50 caliber. Manufactured without sights, with "S102" repeated on multiple components, a ventilated heat shield, plastic grips, and the 5-line Marlin-Rockwell markings on the right sideplate. A conventional trigger and charging handle arrangement has been installed. Very few have survived as almost all 1918s were updated into 1919s, and this example is likely one of only five known in the U.S.

Rating Definition:

Very good as configured for ground use, with 40% of the blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, scattered handling marks and mild spotting. The heat shield appears repainted, and the grips show some chipping. Mechanically needs adjustment. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
