Originally manufactured in the early/mid 1980s as a commercial or export model M16A2, this rifle has been subjected to an extensive embellishment program, including the installation of an A4 pattern upper receiver. The surfaces have been finely polished throughout, with a glossy black overlay on the major alloy components and a deep, royal blue on the major steel components, with a contrasting gold plate on the small parts. The magazine well has been polished smooth, with an etched and gold filled design of a palm tree over a pair of crossed swords (the national emblem of Saudi Arabia from 1950 to present day); no firm provenance was provided on this decoration, though an undelivered "gift" to a Saudi official involved with arms procurement or a custom item for a well-heeled buyer are both plausible. The sides of the receiver have the Colt's Manufacturing address on the left, and "M16 A2/ CAL. 5.56 MM./8190609" over the "Rampant Colt" and "Snake" Colt logos. Post front sight and adjustable peep rear sight on the detachable carry handle, with a closed-bottom birdcage flash hider, HBAR-pattern barrel marked "C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7", bayonet lug, ribbed cylindrical handguard, checkered grip and an 8-position telescoping buttstock. Both the bolt head and carrier are gold plated, with the latter electro-pencil numbered to the lower receiver. The auto sear is integral (not a drop in component), with full function "SAFE/SEMI/AUTO" selector.

Very fine as custom finished, with 98% plus fine high polish blue/black finish, showing mild wear and handling marks overall. The magazine is showing flaking and scraping of it's black finish from contact with the magazine well, and mild cycling wear is visible on the bolt head and carrier. The furniture is excellent, with minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
