Description:

Manufactured with a combination of commercial and military surplus components, this is a functional semi-automatic example of the Browning Model 1917A1 medium machine gun. One of John Browning's many contributions to small arms, the 1917 was the American answer to the Maxim-based water cooled guns fielded by the British and Germans for World War I, capable of matching them for volume of fire in the trenches. The descendants of the 1917, including the air-cooled 1918 and the .50 caliber M2, would be American mainstays for decades, the M2 in particular still remaining a premier heavy machine gun. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with the water jacket enclosing the barrel, and a pair of smooth grips. The right sideplate bears the markings of N.E. Westinghouse, with the Halo Manufacturing address concealed inside the right sideplate. Includes a U.S. M1917A1 tripod and wooden ammunition crate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as assembled, retains 95% plus of the parkerized finish with some scattered light handling marks, a few minor dents in the water jacket, and a few scattered patches of light pitting visible under the finish. The drain plug for the water jacket is damaged, and some oxidation is present around the feed mechanism and bolt. Mechanically very good. The tripod is fine retaining most of the green finish and some parts repainted. The crate is very fine as repainted.
