A scope-equipped variant of the Type 38 service rifle, the Type 97 was one of Imperial Japan's go-to sniper weapons for WWII, and gained great infamy during the "island hopping" campaign in the Pacific. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with a steel monopod attached to the mid band. The receiver markings are properly offset to accommodate the scope base, with crisp Imperial mum and type markings on the receiver ring. The bolt body and safety knob are numbered to match the receiver, and the scope base is numbered "6019". Fitted with a correct mahogany stock.

Excellent, with 90% plus original blue finish, showing some marks on the bolt handle, mild edge wear and light handling marks. The exceptionally fine stock shows dings, scuffs and scratches appropriate to field use. A few minor spots are present on the optics, which are otherwise clear with a well defined reticle, and the exterior showing mild wear and flaking. Mechanically excellent.
