Manufactured by Mauser for the Italian government for delivery in 1899, these early pattern Broomhandles were subjected to rough use through both of the World Wars, leaving few high condition examples. This pistol has all the early features such as: the flat side frame, early large ring hammer, the early style bolt with the long extractor, and old style safety. It has the correct "DV" acceptance proof on the left side of the chamber area, with the underside of the barrel showing three Gothic letter proofs, and the underside flat of the frame bearing the "crown/AV" Italian acceptance proof. The top of the chamber area is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N", with a fixed front sight and an adjustable rear sight marked "1-10" (100-1,000 meters). It is fitted with a matching set of 23 groove walnut grips, and the butt of the frame has a lanyard stud and loop. Includes a walnut shoulder stock/holster with attaching iron numbered "11035". Due to the large hammer ring, the stock/holster does not shut with the gun holstered

Fine, retains 50% plus original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a mottled grey-brown patina, primarily on the grip straps and high spots, with some scattered very light surface pitting. The grips are very good with some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent. The stock is very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches and mostly a grey patina on the iron.
