Description:

Originally manufactured by Walther, this P-38 has been professionally rebuilt by noted California gunsmith John Martz, who is best known for his alterations and upgrades of Luger and P-38 pistols. This P-38 has been chambered to shoot 45 ACP and 38 Super through the use of Martz slide and barrel assemblies. These pistols were all hand manufactured and fitted requiring several months each. Fitted with blade front and notch rear sights, the left side of the slide is marked with a hand engraved Walther banner, "P38" and in fancy script "Martz .45 acp/ No. 20", with "Lincoln, Ca./U.S.A." in matching script on the right side. The frame and trigger guard are marked with the serial number "3246ac" and a "waffenamt/359" after, with circled "JVM" and "20" on the right side. Barrel lug is marked "JVM" on the left, with an unmarked locking block. Currently in the gun is a blued magazine marked ".45 Auto./JVM" on the floor plate. Included wood case has two brass plaques inside that read "Prototype P38 45 ACP/ 38 Super Calibers Sept. 20 1995. Case by Robert Edwards". With an extra barrel and slide assembly marked "Martz .38 Super/No 6" and extra magazine marked "38 Super/JVM" on the floorplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom upgraded to current configuration by Martz, retaining 99% high polish blue with some light handling marks and some light surface corrosion on the polished slide stop. Grips are also very fine with sharp checkering and some light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
