Description:

Left side breech end of barrel marked with "V/P/eagle head/P" proofmarks with "A" on top. Low arch breechblock marked "US/MODEL/1873". The lock plate is marked with the American eagle next to "U. S./SPRINGFIELD". The stock is marked with the boxed "SWP/1886" cartouche on the left wrist and an "N" over a circled "P" is stamped in the grip area. The rifle has blade front and Buffington rear sights, two-piece trigger guard and trigger bar assembly, serrated trigger, iron cleaning rod and smooth buttplate with no trapdoor. Includes a "US" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish and 95% of the original casehardened finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina. The wood is also excellent with some scattered minor dings and scratches, and a crisp cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
