Description:

This classic rook rifle is nearly identical to the famous Holland & Holland “The Ross” rifle, and like “The Ross” was almost certainly made by Webley in Birmingham. The barrel is signed “J. HARKOM & SON” and “30. GEORGE ST. EDINBURGH” on each side of the full length sighting flat towards the breech and has a beaded front sight, three leaf rear sight (one standing, two folding) graduated to 150 yards with gold center line, and an automatic ejector. The rounded action has a safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. It features classic English border and scroll engraving. It is marked with the Birmingham single definitive proof mark. Import marked under the forearm. The checkered stock has a dark horn forearm cap and a grooved dark horn buttplate. Includes a leather muzzle cover. 14 3/4 inch length of pull. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 95% older reblued finish with some minor muzzle rub to finish, a patch of shallow pitting partially covered by the finish towards the muzzle (probably from long term storage in a case or rack). The action and grip cap retain 75% of the fading original casehardened finish. The trigger guard has 20% original blued finish. The engraving is clear throughout. The stock has attractive figure patterns, well-defined checkering, a slight crack in the right stock head, and numerous scattered age related storage and handling marks and bruises. Mechanically excellent.
