Description:

This very fine Colt Model 1849 Pocket was manufactured in 1855 and has a brass cone front sight, the two-line "{ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY}" barrel marking, five-shot cylinder with the stagecoach holdup scene, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame (upper line faint), "8" and "G" on the left side of the trigger guard, and matching serial numbers on the wedge, arbor pin, cylinder, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The case contains a small eagle pattern powder flask, early style "COLTS/PATENT" brass bullet mold without a sprue cutter, cap tin, and L-shaped combination tool.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% plus original silver plating on the grip frame which displays an attractive age darkened patina, 80% original blue finish on the barrel, 40% original blue and a crisp roll-scene on the cylinder, 70% original smoky gray case colors and patina on the frame as well as the loading lever and hammer, and minor overall wear including some light dings and scratches. The grip retains 90% plus of the high gloss "piano" varnish and has light lower edge wear and some small dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are fine and have minor age and storage related wear, including a thin crack in the lid.
