Description:

Germanic crossbows of this design have been dated to the mid 16th century to early 17th century. This particular example has an iron prod with a "X" in a circle mark on the right limb, multi-colored poms, and an incredibly ornate bone inlaid and paneled tiller (stock) with a variety of designs, including floral vines along the sides, a cloaked figure, mask, female figure with "L HIEKM" followed by two unclear letters above, and "INA" over a sword. The tiller has iron pegs for use with a cranequin. The trigger folds flat and is protected by a curved iron guard attached only at the front.

Rating Definition:

Very good with generally distinct designs, dark patina and mild oxidation on the prod which is somewhat loose and various horizontal cracks, glued repairs, and scattered small pieces of bone inlay absent on the tiller. The nut and trigger mechanisms appear to be complete.
