Description:

This large shotgun's bore measures .90 caliber ( little under 6 bore), and the Damascus barrel has a post front sight, girdled transition point turning to polygonal and then octagonal in the breech section, "GEORGE GIBBS 20 CLARE ST BRISTOL" signed on top, and Birmingham proofs marked on the bottom. The patent breech has scroll and border engraving and a platinum plug. The lock and furniture are also primarily engraved with scroll and floral patterns. The lock is signed "G. GIBBS." The half-length stock has a horn forend tip, black silver escutcheon, checkered wrist, and 14 inch length of pull. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection

Rating Definition:

Good with gray and brown patina, traces of Damascus patterns and case colors, mild oxidation, crisp engraving, repaired front ramrod ferrule, and generally mild overall wear. The refinished stock is good with crisp checkering, moderate dents, numerous light scratches and dings, small loss at the edges, thin crack on the left at the breech, and slight chip at the right breech. Mechanically fine.
