Description:

This charming small frame double rifle was manufactured c. 1911. The blued barrels have a solid flat matted rib signed “W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 68. HAYMARKET. LONDON” with a ramp mounted blade front sight and a dovetailed rear sight of one standing and three folding notch leaf sights graduated to 300 yards, rib extension, single extractor, “AMMT.N .310” engraved on the right barrel at the breech, and an engraved band of beadwork at the breech ends. The casehardened treble grip action is signed “W.W. GREENER” on each side and has a Greener patent cross bolt, removable firing pin bushings, a blued toplever, a blued Greener side safety, and a blued trigger guard engraved “GRADE RDT 25”. Classic English scrollwork is engraved throughout and frames panels scenes of rabbits on the sides of the action. The underside of the barrels and water table are struck with Birmingham nitro proof marks and Greener “Elephant” trademarks, and an import mark is under the forearm. The well-figured walnut semi-pistol grip stock has a slender rubber butt pad, fine multipoint checkering on the grip and forearm, a Deeley and Edge fastener on the forearm, dark horn pistol grip cap and forearm tip, and blank silver initial escutcheon on the underside of the butt. The canvas and leather case has "J.J.W." on the lid, a transportation tags for Haddington, a Greener trade label, and an oil bottle. 13 1/2 inch length of pull. Weight 5 lbs. 7 oz. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent as professionally refinished. The barrels retain 97% reblued finish with some loss at the muzzles. The action retains near 100% expertly renewed casehardened finish. The engraving is crisp throughout with pleasing detail to the rabbit scenes and is of very good quality. The stock is very good and has an older reoiled finish, well-defined checkering, and occasional slight storage and handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The partially redone case is very good with mild wear on the exterior, new leather, and minimal wear on the relined interior. A very rare rifle in lovely condition.
